About this tool
Resize and Compress Image shrinks a photo by lowering its quality, its dimensions, or both. That is handy for email attachments, online forms with a file size limit, or uploading photos faster on a slow connection.
Pick Smaller File, Balanced or Best Quality, choose whether to keep the original format or save as JPG, optionally set a maximum width in pixels, and download. The photo is processed on your device and is never uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get a photo under a size limit, such as 100 KB?
Choose Smaller File, set a maximum width such as 800 pixels, and save as JPG. Check the size shown after download and reduce the width further if you need it smaller.
Why did my PNG not get smaller?
PNG is a lossless format, so the quality setting does not shrink it. Either reduce the width, or choose Save as JPG. JPG does not keep transparent areas, so they turn white.
Will it stretch or squash my photo?
No. The height changes in proportion to the width you set. Photos narrower than the width you enter are not enlarged.
Does it keep the location data in my photo?
Re-saving a photo through this tool normally drops its hidden metadata, including GPS location, as a side effect. It is not built as a privacy tool, so check the result if that matters to you.
